Scorpions

Germany’s greatest rock export has been rocking us like a hurricane for six decades. Klaus Meine’s soaring voice and the twin guitars of Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs made Scorpions a fixture of arena rock and of Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio.

Station picks: the Scorpions songs to start with

Our five essentials:

1. Rock You Like a Hurricane (1984). The ultimate fist-in-the-air anthem.
2. Wind of Change (1990). The whistle, the ballad, a song that became part of history.
3. Still Loving You (1984). A slow-building power ballad that never gets old.
4. No One Like You (1982). Their first big U.S. hit, all hooks and harmony guitars.
5. Big City Nights (1984). Neon, noise and a chorus for the whole arena.

Three deep cuts worth your time:

1. The Zoo (1979). A slinky, talk-box groove from Lovedrive.
2. Coast to Coast (1979). A heavy instrumental that the band still loves to play live.
3. In Trance (1975). Haunting early Scorpions with Uli Jon Roth on guitar.
